This illustration is about the high-rents game in Dublin. It is especially hard for newcomers, who have no choice but to live somewhere and have to pay whatever the market says. It is even harder for families with children: almost the full salary of one of the partners goes for the rent, and they can’t really live with roommates. The quality of the housing is not exactly equal to the price, and seems like it doesn’t matter anymore: landlords and agencies just blow the balloon bigger and bigger.
I am an illustrator and designer, and my style is inspired by folk art, fairytales and children’s art. Having studied in Kiev and Rome, exhibited my work globally, and published internationally, I now lives by the sea in Dublin, trying to pay my high rent, and wishing it was a little warmer here. You can find out more about my work at vickny.com and minushka.com.
