We’re Hiring!

We’re looking for a full-time city reporter to join our team based – when we’re not working from home – in Crumlin, dedicated to original, quality coverage of the city.

In particular, we want someone to focus on covering transport regularly. We are not looking for a campaigner or advocate of a particular position, but someone to cover the many sides of transport-related challenges and debates, who will engage in good faith with those across the city while keeping a critical eye and ear.

We hope to hear from journalists willing to learn about transport, but we’re also interested in applications from transport geeks willing to learn journalism.

In addition to transport, we’ll also want you to cover a broad range of stories from the south side of the city. We’re a small newsroom so we’re looking for somebody who wants to turn their hand to all kinds of stories: nuanced profiles, solutions-focused features, council meetings, and watchdog coverage. Love data? We’re into that too.

We’re looking for somebody curious, open-minded, and conscientious. Somebody also willing to chip in with organising events, or delivering newspapers around the city when needed. Someone who wants to engage with readers, who will respond to feedback without defensiveness and also stay true to the values of independent journalism.

You’ll be expected to report and write at least three original stories a week, which we’ll publish in our online edition and monthly print newspaper.

We prefer not to assign stories, so a big part of the job is coming up with things to write about – that haven’t been covered already by others, elsewhere – developing contacts on in transport and on the south side of the city, and learning to parse the news from the noise.

You’ll be expected to go beyond breaking-news-style reporting, to a deeper analysis and discussion of city affairs. Keep in mind we’re a weekly, not a daily, or a minutely.

The pay for this position is €2,078 a month.
