Is a bad definition of "derelict" partly behind the bad dereliction in Dublin?
The Department of Finance, with Revenue and the Department of Housing, is looking at a new definition, said a spokesperson.
“How are kids meant to walk to a playground if it’s cut off?” asks Robert Kelly, the chairperson of the Lougshinny Community Association.
“The setting of differential rents is an Executive Function,” said the council’s director of housing. Meaning it’s not the councillors’ job.
A 2023 audit identified gaps where playgrounds were needed, and the council’s working to fill some of those in.
The expected timeline is the 18 months plus the breaks over the summer and winter months, said Shane McMorrow, at a recent council committee meeting.

A year ago, after much work, the council published a plan for how to revitalise the village. “I’m wondering why we all went to the bother, to be honest.”
Fingal has been working for years towards building a small number of apartments on a long-vacant site at Tuckett’s Lane.
“I feel like, if I don’t vote [for it], I’m voting against housing. If I do vote, I’m voting against greenbelt.”
Fingal County Council's "Operations Department has no plans to review or amend the recently adopted Parking Control Bye-Laws", was the response.
“Obviously swimming is a life-saving skill, so unless it is reopened, I don’t know where all those schools are gonna go.”
Emergency works should start soon, said a council official on 19 March – followed, if permitted, by a more extensive intervention.
Drivers would also be limited to leaving their cars in spots on the road for a maximum of three hours.
