Autumn Blaze

Acrylic paint on canvas, 1m x 1.35m
In hand-made frame by Terry Mee

1. This work is about … the leaf. I see incredible beauty, colour and vibrancy. The ability to change our daily scene. It holds my interest and reminds me of the cycle of life. I remember to dance like the leaf on the breeze because life is short. The leaf gives me comfort and a sense of calm, I know I am just a part of nature. Even when the leaf has aged, it still retains its beauty, its character and its interest.

2. I made this work because … it was fun and expressive. I like to do completely new and different things. It’s exciting.

3. I hope when people see this work they will … feel uplifted and smile and feel like doing something creative, fun and free.

4. In terms of art history, this work … I really just worked from my own instincts. I am inspired by the work of Paul Klee, because of his use of colour and fun.

“Curios About …” is a series featuring works by Dublin artists. Each artist is asked to submit an image of one work and answer a set of questions about it. We’d love it if you’d submit something you’ve made, here.
